Idaho Graduated Driver License (GDL) Requirements

Step 1: Learner's Permit
Minimum Age
15 years old
Holding Period
6 months
Requirements:
- Pass written knowledge test
- Pass vision screening
- Enrolled in or completed driver education
- Parent/guardian consent
Step 2: Intermediate/Provisional License
Minimum Age
15 years 6 months years old
Night Curfew
No specific curfew (supervised only for 6 months)
Passenger Limit
1 non-family passenger (first 6 months)
Restrictions:
- Must have held permit for 6 months
- Supervised driving for first 6 months
- No more than 1 non-family passenger for first 6 months
Step 3: Full Driver License
Minimum Age
16 years old
Requirements:
- Must have held intermediate license for 6 months
- Complete 50 hours of supervised driving (10 at night)
- Pass road skills test
