Florida Graduated Driver License (GDL) Requirements

Step 1: Learner's Permit
Minimum Age
15 years old
Holding Period
12 months
Requirements:
- Pass written knowledge test
- Pass vision screening
- Complete Traffic Law & Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course
- Parent/guardian consent
Step 2: Intermediate/Provisional License
Minimum Age
16 years old
Night Curfew
11 PM-6 AM (16) / 1 AM-5 AM (17)
Passenger Limit
No specific passenger limit
Restrictions:
- Must have held permit for 12 months with no convictions
- No driving between 11 PM and 6 AM (age 16) or 1 AM-5 AM (age 17) unless accompanied by licensed adult 21+
- Complete 50 hours of supervised driving (10 at night)
Step 3: Full Driver License
Minimum Age
18 years old
Requirements:
- Must have held intermediate license for 12 months
- Complete 50 hours of supervised driving (10 at night)
- Pass road skills test
